Course Summary

GravityFit

The gravity fit program has been developed by Dr Carolyn Richardson. She was a pioneer of the core stability revolution in the 70's and 80's and has now developed this very simple protocol for good postural awareness so that it is available to everyone.

The gravity fit course will teach you how to use Carolyn's "core awareness belt" to help stabilise the lower back and spine while you walk, run, play golf or any other activity. This allows the user to feel the correct activation of the core muscles.
You will learn simple exercises for your clients. These exercises can be used to maintain their new postural awareness.

Message from the founder of GravityFit "Core to Whole Body" exercises

For optimum performance and injury prevention (especially for trunk rotation sports)

For the first 10 years of my career, my research team pioneered and developed the concept of Core Stability, and were recognised as the world leaders in ‘Core muscle' function. Over the next 10 years, our new international research team were involved in research with the European Space Agency. This research established the link between the stabilising effect of the Core muscles, the Antigravity muscle system and Gravity.

In the past 5 years, the new exercise paradigm, Gravity Fitness, was developed for optimising bone and joint health and improving physical performance - we have found this to be as important as cardio fitness for the health and fitness industry. Gravity Fitness is about using the body as it was designed to function, using the right muscles for the right job. This new exercise paradigm has already been recognised by Australia's top golf and cricket coaches and fitness trainers.
Carolyn Richardson PhD

This course aims to first explain the principles of ‘Core to Whole Body' exercise, which are focussed on using the Core Awareness Belt and other GravityFit Exercise Tools for Antigravity ‘whole body' exercise. Using a sample ‘Core to Whole Body' exercise program and applying these new principles, you will be able to design your own Antigravity exercise programs suitable for your client's needs.
Most importantly, practical sessions with feedback will allow you to begin to get the feel of good posture, good joint alignment and a working Core. You will also learn to assess your own functional level of Core stability using your Core Awareness Belt and the Pressure Biofeedback (‘Stabilizer').

COURSE OUTLINE: GravityFit ‘Core to Whole Body' exercises

UNIT ONE The Gravity Fit Exercise Model
- Gravity the key to health and wellness for our bones and joints
- Muscle imbalances caused by a lack of information about Gravity to joints and bones
- Lifestyle factors/sports/athletic activities which cause muscle imbalances
- Overview of the Gravity Fit Exercise Model
Practical/Discussion Sessions -
- Functional ‘weight bearing' everyday activities for the 3 Antigravity Kinetic Chains
- Formal weight bearing exercises (or ‘simulated' weight bearing exercise) using - body weight, walls, free weights, exercise machines, elastic resistance bands.
- ‘Weight bearing' stretches to lengthen the tight/toned Movement muscles

UNIT TWO Axial Stability of the Spine
- A stable central axis for the trunk
- Signs of a loss of Axial Stability of the spine/pelvis
- How to develop Axial Stability of the spine/pelvis
Practical/Discussion Sessions -
- Use of the Core Awareness Belt(CAB) - Walking Program, posture check, wall push ups
- Testing Axial Stability of the Spine using the CAB and the PBU (‘Stabilizer')
- Discuss when ‘Remedial' exercise is required

UNIT THREE ‘Core to Whole Body' Exercises (7 levels)
- Guidelines for exercises
- Overview of the 7 levels of the ‘Core to Whole Body' program
Practical/Discussion Sessions -
- Practical on the 7 levels of exercise with the CAB and elastic resistance bands
- Use CAB and the PBU (‘Stabilizer') to verify level achieved (personal assessment)
- Suitable exercises to increase ‘rotation' range of the thoracic spine and hips
