Under the Food Safety Act 2006, every licensed food business in QLD was required to have a Food Safety Supervisor after 1 July 2008.
As part of this online course, you must have access to a food workplace and a food safety supervisor to verify you have demonstrated safe food handling techniques and skills in implementing a food safety program (either as an employee or a volunteer). This food workplace should:
If you do not have access to a kitchen, you can approach a local business for this activity or contact Sunshine Coast Institute of TAFE to arrange to complete this observation activity at the Mooloolaba campus.
A Food Safety Supervisor must have a statement of attainment issued by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) for the competencies identified below or have demonstrated to an RTO that they have the prior skills, experience or training to meet these competencies.
Food businesses that are required to complete the Food Safety Supervisor course are divided into these sectors;
Hospitality and Retail sector (Restaurants, cafes etc.)
- SITXOHS002A - Follow workplace hygiene procedures
- SITXFSA001A - Implement food safety procedures
- SIRRFSA001A - Apply retail food safety practices
Health and Community Services sector (Aged care facilities, hospitals, child care)
- HLTFS207B - Follow basic food safety practices
- HLTFS309B - Oversee the day to day implementation of food safety in the workplace
- HLTFS310B - Apply and monitor food safety requirements
Food Processing sector (Not currently offered by Sunshine Coast TAFE)
- FDFCORFSY2A - Implement food safety program and procedures
Training Options offered by Sunshine Coast TAFE
1. Self-paced, on-line delivery requiring approximately 10 - 15 hours of study and no on-campus attendance. This will need to be completed within 12 weeks from the date of enrolment.
2. Face-to-face classroom course runs 3 consecutive Tuesdays 9.00am - 1.00pm.
