Course Summary

Dog Clipping and Grooming


If you love your pooch, you'd have to be barking mad to not complete a short course in Dog Clipping and Grooming at Sunshine Coast TAFE. While this course does not provide you with a qualification, this hands-on program will provide practical skills and methods for dog clipping, grooming and equipment use. You will experience practical demonstrations and skills such as: brushing; clipping; grooming top coat; bathing; blow drying; nail clipping; ear care; and equipment Maintenance. You'll also learn about general pet care including dog control; flea control; worming; desexing and general pet care.

All form fields are required.

Important information prior to enrolment

For this course, you'll be required to bring a long-haired dog at least one year in age or older. Ideal breed types suited to this training program; Shih Tzu, Maltese Terrier, Poodles, Schnauzer, Llahsa Apso or any type of long haired Terrier. If you intend to bring a large dog, please notify the teacher with the details by contacting the Customer Contact Centre on 07 5457 1000.

Participants must bring the same dog to all six sessions. The trainer will assess each dogs temperament on the first night for suitability.

Dogs must be fully immunised and a current vaccination certificate is required on the first day of the training program for verification and approval by the trainer and assessor. In addition all dogs will be required to be wormed and had flea treatments.

For Workplace Health and Safety reasons dogs will be required to be leashed throughout the training program.

You will be required to wear closed in shoes and well fitted clothing (i.e no loose garments). You'll need to remove jewellery and watches.

For class you'll need to bring the following equipment:
electric dog clipper - 2 speed (WHAL or OSTER brand recommended)
set of blade combs size 5mm, 9mm and 13mm; slicker brush small/medium/large per size dog; wide tooth metal comb; medium hairdressing Scissors; medium thinning scissors - single or good quality; hair dryer - 2 heat settings; nail cutters - plier style with safety bar; non slip PVC mat - 1 metre square; PVC apron or coverall; dog leash; current vaccination certificate with CS A(Kennel Cough); towel; treats; RECOMMENDED - 5F Blade; and RECOMMENDED - Small Battery Pet Clipper.
