Course Summary

Basic Welding for the Metals Industry


Sunshine Coast TAFE is offering a course in welding to any person that may be interested in starting a career in the areas of metal fabrication and welding, developing basic welding skills or refreshing their welding knowledge and abilities.

This course provides the opportunity to develop your welding skills in either Manual Metal Arc Welding (stick) or Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG).

The course has been designed with a focus on welding safety and practical skills. Areas of study will include the application of safe welding practices, the use of hand and power tools associated with the welding of steel sections and practical welding using either the manual metal arc or gas metal arc welding processes. There will be some assignment work to be completed outside of college classes.

The competencies offered in this program may also be credited to an apprenticeship in Boilermaking or Sheetmetal Working. The successful completion of the basic welding program will also allow students to enrol in the course - "Intermediate Welding for the Metals Industry".

All form fields are required.

Entry Requirement :

Students need to bring protective equipment. Welding gloves, welding helmet, fireproof long sleeve shirt and long trousers (jeans and cotton shirt are acceptable), and steel cap boots/shoes, pen and paper.

Award Information :

After successful completion of this course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the competencies you completed.
