The Basic Crew Safety STCW95 training program is a eight (8) day full time program made up of training in the following areas of:
Basic crew safety training
Fire fighting training and
Apply First Aid training
The training program will provide participants with skills such as:
Survival in an abandonment situation;
Survival in emergencies, eg. fire on board a ship;
An overview of Occupational Health and Safety;
Personal and social obligations to other crew members;
Fire fighting in a full suit and breathing apparatus;
Apply First Aid advanced resuscitation and automatic external defibrillation techniques certification.
All form fields are required.
Program
Entry Requirement :
Important information prior to enrolment Participants are required to be in good health at the time of enrolment. Participants that have existing medical conditions or injury that may affect their ability to participate in training program should discuss their eligibility with the Trainer and Assessor prior to enrolment.
Important Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) Information on Fire Fighting Training Fire Fighting training is held at the QFRS Live Fire Site, Whyte Island, Brisbane.
Participants will be required to travel to Whyte Island, Brisbane for 2 days of training. No transport will be provided on these days, participants will need to supply their own mode of transport.
Training commences at 7.00am through 4.00pm. QFRS will provide lunch on both days of training.
Prior to commencement of Fire Fighting training program participants will complete indemnity forms.
To ensure the safety of participants QFRS requires: Participants be in good health; Participants comply with Workplace Health and Safety requirements and all lawful direction given by instructors; Participants to wear enclosed footwear as a site access requirement; Participants to wear overalls, boots, fire suits, gloves, helmets and safety gear supplied by QFRS; Jewellery, watches, rings etc. not to be worn during the Fire Fighting training; No mobile phones in any area around and within the live fire area; Participants to bring their own towel and toiletries as shower facilities will be provided; Participants do not consume drugs or alcohol prior to and during the training program; and Participants not leave the facility without informing the facilitator. Participants taking prescribed medication or with health problems should contact the training program facilitator prior to undertaking training on 1300 650 028.
If at any time during the training program a participant suffers any illness or injury that may affect the ability to fully undertake all training activity, participants should contact the training program facilitator on 1300 650 028.
Important Apply First Aid Information Participants who currently hold an Apply First Aid Certificate, will need to provide their Certificate to the trainer and assessor on the first day of the training program for verification and approval. On approval these participants will be exempt from undertaking the Apply First Aid training. However no refund will be issued. Please note the training program cost will not be reduced if participants hold a current Apply First Aid Certificate.
Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) Licensing On successful completion of the training program participants will be issued with a Training Completion Certificate. Participants will apply directly to AMSA for their individual license. For more information on AMSA licence enquiries please contact the Australian Maritime Safety Authority on 07 3001 6800.
What Do I Need To Bring? Pen and paper; Change of clothes when undertaking pool work (fully clothed in overalls or t-shirt and shorts whilst in the water); and Lunch (provided only at Fire Fighting training).
Training Program Location (see timetable in related documents) The training program will be held at: Nambour Campus, Sunshine Coast Institute of TAFE; Kawana Aquatic Centre (pool work); and Whyte Island, Brisbane (fire fighting training).
Award Information :
On successful completion of the training program participants will be issued with a Training Completion Certificate.
