If your world is design, a Diploma in Interior Technology from the Sunshine Coast TAFE could have you designing the world around you.

The Diploma provides training for technical support roles in the planning and design of shops, offices, hotels and public buildings.

This program provides you with vocational training in the theoretical and practical aspects of interior design. The scope of the course includes structural alterations as well as furnishings, fittings and finishes. Study areas include theoretical and practical aspects of small commercial and residential interior design, presentation drawing, materials, drafting, technology, CAD studies and construction.

Course timetable Mondays 8.00am - 4.45pm, Tuesdays 8.30am - 4.00pm and Thursdays 10.45am - 4.00pm

Drafting Kit
Drafting kits will be required by participants to be purchased externally direct from the supplier. A list of required equipment and required texts is available from SCT Creative Industries or as an attachment on this website.

Construction White Card
Participants are required to hold a Construction White Card for the Certificate IV in Residential Interior Technology program. Participants who do not hold a Construction White Card will be required to enrol into a White Card training program for an additional cost. Further information will be supplied at orientation.

How to Apply

Application through QTAC AND Application to Sunshine Coast TAFE. Application forms are available at all Sunshine Coast TAFE campuses. Applicants should include additional information with their application describing:

  1. level of academic achievement in English or relevant industry experience
  2. level of academic achievement or other studies
  3. any previous CAD/computer experience
  4. any previous industry or work experience in either construction or building design/documentation
  5. resume of previous work areas (optional),
  6. a short statement outlining your reasons for wishing to study in this area
 

Career Prospects :

Career options may include - technical support for designer office, residential interior technician, marketing/selling products to the interior industry, colour design consultant.

Kitchen and bathroom designers, draft persons working on residential projects either under supervision of architects, building designers or self-employed persons with appropriate industry experience, fit out consultant, digital presentation graphics.

Persons who wish to develop specialist skills in a range of design, office administration, computer-aided drafting and presentation skills.

Provides graduates with the opportunity to join the Design Institute of Australia (DIA) as a Graduate Member which, with additional workplace experience, leads to Associate Membership

 

Academic Entry Requirements :

Certificate IV in Residential Interior Technology

 

English Language Requirements :

If your first language is not English, you must satisfy one of the following English language proficiency requirements:

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS), academic module - score out of 5.5 with no individual score less than 5.0. NOTE: All applicants from AL3 and AL4 countries must sit and IELTS test. http://www.immi.gov.au/students/student-visa-assessment-levels.htm
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - minimum score of 530 for the paper based test; 197 for the computer based; 71 for the internet based test.
  • International Second Language Proficiency Rating (ISLPR) - minimum individual score of three.
  • Australian Year 12 English (or equivalent) - Sound Achievement rating.
  • Cambridge First Certificate of English - A or B grades.
  • Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English
  • Successful completion of an acceptable formal course where the medium of instruction was English. This does not included English Language Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS).
  • Swedish applicants - V, VG or MVG in English A and English B on your School Leaving Certificate.
 

Additional Requirements :

Students are required to purchase a Took Kit containing drafting equipment and presentation equipment for $520.00(approximately). This cost is not included in course fees and is payable on the first day of the course. Students are also required to supply their own personal stationery and some materials.
