Diploma of Events (Surf) (SIT50207)

(International Students)

Immerse yourself in aquatic event management. The focus of your studies will be on management processes for events such as surf competitions, surf life saving carnivals, regattas and other sporting events. This perfect course requires you to spend days at the beach learning to surf and also gaining qualifications in surf coaching, surf lifesaving and marine boat handling. These skills are underpinned by a detailed knowledge of event concept development, budgeting, event preparation, staging and logistics, event marketing, onsite event management, managing health & safety and managing people. The beautiful Sunshine Coast is renowned for its many outdoor events held throughout the year and you will gain valuable experience through your involvement with these events while studying the course.

Career Prospects :

Employment opportunities may be found with professional surf competition organisers, sporting, exhibition and event management companies, resorts, sporting associations and community organisations. Other careers include freelance event organiser/manager, leisure tour guide or outdoor recreation manager. 

Academic Entry Requirements :

Equivalent of Australian Year 12 (12 years of schooling) or mature aged entry. 

English Language Requirements :

IELTS academic module score of 5.5 with no individual score less than 5.0 (or eqivalent testing system); or
Successful completion of an acceptable formal course where the medium of instruction was English (does not include ELICOS); or
Completion of Upper Intermediate EAP, Global Village English Centre (Noosa, Maroochydore or Byron Bay); or
Swedish applicants - V,VG or MVG in English A and English B on School Leaving Certificate. 

Additional Requirements :

Students must be physically fit. To complete the surfing units you must be a competent swimmer assessed at swimming freestyle for 200 metres using fins, in a time no longer than 6 minutes without stopping and wothout signs of distress.

Further Study :

Many University Degree programs will grant certain credits for completion of the TAFE Diploma of Events. Individual Universities should be contacted for specific details. The University of the Sunshine Coast offers articulation entry to Bachelor of business/ Event Leisure management and other programs and pathways.
