Certificate IV in Fitness (SRF40206)

(International Students)

A Certificate IV Fitness will fast track your career in the fitness industry. The Sunshine Coast TAFE offers a course that'll launch you into a role as a fitness trainer. You'll learn everything fitness including advanced exercising programming and postural appraisal, exercise science, specific populations, motivational psychology and body fat loss. Areas of specialisation include personal training, older adult training, children and adolescent training.


We'll help you gain a greater understanding of nutrition, sports injury rehabilitation, postural screening, fitness equipment, and we'll show you how to work with older adults. Other areas of study include working with children and adolescents, psychology and physiology.


On successful completion of this one year, full time course you can register as a Fitness Trainer (including the 3 specialisations of Personal Trainer, Children and Adolecent Trainer and Older Adult Trainer).

This program requires a significant commitment from you as a student. You will be studying at a level involving bio-mechanics, applied anatomy and physiology, as well as working with clients on one-to-one basis and have opportunity to work in our fully equipped gym.

Industry may require you to be over 18 years of age on completion of the course, to be registered with Fitness Australia or Kinect and employed within the industry.

Career Prospects :

After successfully graduating from this course and associated pre-requisite modules from Certificate III you may seek employment in the Fitness and Recreation Industries as a fitness trainer. 

Academic Entry Requirements :

A Certificate III in Fitness is required before entry to Certificate IV.

Completion of Year 12 or equivalent, or mature age entry is desirable for vocational outcomes in this course. Completion of Year 10 or its equivalent is mandatory. An interview with the course coordinator is compulsory for anybody who is not 17 years of age or turning 17 years of age during the first year of the course.

A Doctors Certificate is required at orientation day to indicate the student can safely take part in exercise of a moderate intensity.

 

English Language Requirements :

TAFE Queensland requires proficiency in the English language before you can begin formal studies. This is determined by one of the following prerequisites:-

  • International English Language Testing System IELTS, academic module score of 6.0 with no individual score less than 5.5;
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language TOEFL - score of 550 PBT or 230 CBT;
  • Successful completion of an acceptable formal course where the medium of instruction was English. This does not include ELICOS
  • Completion of Stage 3 minimum Direct English Entry Program - University of the Sunshine Coast
  • Swedish students - V, VG or MVG in English A & English B on your School Leaving Certificate

Further Study :

Successful completion of Certificate IV in Fitness can lead to studies in both a Diploma of Sport and Recreation and a Diploma of Fitness. The Diploma of Fitness provides an articulation pathway to Sunshine Coast University in the School of Exercise Science.
