Make a fine career choice and enrol in the Diploma Visual Arts- Focus on Fine Arts at Sunshine Coast TAFE. This full-time course provides professional level training in visual arts, majoring in areas such as painting and drawing, with associated study in art issues and theories.

This course consists of one day each of painting, drawing and theory. By encompassing an overview of ten thousand year's of creative endeavour the history and theory course assists students to understand the contested arena of contemporary art within the overarching narrative of the entire body of humanity's creative achievement and it is these understandings which underpin their exploration of art at TAFE.

The course aims not only to provide the knowledge of materials, methods and techniques related to painting and drawing, but also assists the development of a personal artistic vision and locates this vision realistically within the wider arts industry. The course also introduces students to new media technology and helps them to articulate a personal rationale that can be used to promote their work online via YouTube and Facebook and other social media.

Information :

This course consists of one day each of painting, drawing, and theory. The fact that the theoretical component of this course begins with the study of pre-modernism and post-modernism is testament of its current and contemporary direction. It aims not only to provide you with the knowledge of materials methods and techniques but also encourages, through exploration, experimentation and research, the development of personal philosophy and concepts.

 

Career Prospects :

Successful completion of this Diploma may lead to employment as a visual artist, as well as employment in art establishments such as art galleries. Graduates may also advance to higher level studies, or may gain self-employment as an artist. 

Entry Requirement :

Entry requirements are the completion of Year 12 or its equivalent, or an approved qualification in visual arts or vocational experience at least equivalent to Certificate III level.

Applicants are required to submit a folio of their work (see related documents) and also apply through QTAC.

 

Assessment Information :

Assessment is undertaken throughout the course both in practical and theoretical exercises. Assessment is competency based and you are required to complete all projects and assignments, written and/or practical, as set out within the unit study guides and workbooks. Written, verbal and practical assessments make up the majority of assessments, but attendance, general attitude and your application to your studies are also taken into account.
