Diploma of Accounting (FNS50210)

Make a calculated decision - enrol in the Diploma of Accounting at Sunshine Coast TAFE. This part time course is the ideal next step to your career in accounting and also provides the perfect pathway to further study. This course has been designed to fit in with your busy lifestyle as we offer study options of only one or two days per week. This face to face class time with an accounting teacher will help you succeed in the units.

Many students choose to complete their Diploma of Accounting with Sunshine Coast TAFE before going on to university study so they can start working in the industry sooner while saving themselves time and money. This course is highly regarded in the tertiary sector and many universities will grant up to one full year of credit towards a Bachelor of Accounting or related study.

This course would also suit anyone looking to develop their understanding of sound financial practices. You will learn about all aspects of the management and administration of accounting functions. This program covers; budgeting and forecasting; preparing financial reports; maintaining internal control systems; preparing income tax returns; legislative compliance and reporting on business performance.

You must complete the core units of the Certificate IV in Accounting before enrolling in the Diploma of Accounting as this is a pre-requisite.

Information : This course is offered part time over four x 3 month clusters (terms). You can enrol into any of the four terms to begin study, and then simply continue on until you have completed all units for this qualification. It is also possible to complete over a longer period of time by just undertaking one unit at a time. Students who are eligible to enrol will also have completed a Cert IV in Accounting and two of these completed units will be used as electives to meet the qualification criteria.

Career Prospects : Career options include; assistant accountant, office manager, administration manager, budget or accounts officer working in such areas as accounts receivable/payable, inventory, fixed assets, payroll and general ledger. 
Entry Requirement : Students must have completed core units from the Certificate IV Accounting in the Financial Services Training package FNS10 or FNS04 or evidence of equivalent competency of above through recognition of prior learning (RPL).

You must have successfully completed year 12 (or equivalent) or have relevant experience and/or qualifications that indicates likely success in completing the course.

Assessment Information : Students may be assessed via various modes including; assignments, tests, oral questioning, observation and third party reports. Assessment is competency based and requires the completion of all projects and assignments, written and/or practical, as set out within study guides or workbooks.

The fee charged for programs where there is no Government Subsidy or the participant is not eligible under the Certificate 3 Guarantee and are regarded as Fee for Service. For approved Diploma and Advanced Diploma programs payment of fees may use the VET FEE HELP payment option.
