After completing the Certificate II in Seafood Industry (Aquaculture School Program) at Sunshine Coast TAFE you’ll be hooked on this interesting industry. If you’re starting year 11 this year, you’re eligible to apply for this course, which could land you a job in aquaculture farming, aquariums or seafood processing.
This entry-level course will provide you with an introduction to the aquaculture industry and the basic skills needed to work at an entry level in the commercial aquaculture environment. You’ll learn about: Occupational Health and Safety principles; safe work practices; food safety; stock health; repairs and maintenance; water quality; handling and harvesting stock; basic compliance for working in the seafood industry; and aquaponics.
This qualification offers the base entry point into this sector of the seafood industry and provides you with a range of core and underpinning skills and knowledge relevant to work as a field hand in the aquaculture sector. Work at this level is usually undertaken under general supervision and follows routine processes and procedures.

| Career Prospects : | This certificate is nationally recognised and is portable. It enables the student to enter at a base level to work within the Australian aquaculture farming industry with species such as barramundi, salmon, tuna, prawns, oysters, ornamental fish and crayfish. Other career options include base level employment in aquarium shops, public aquariums and seafood processing facilities. |
