Certificate I in Engineering (Metal Fabrication Pre-voc) (MEM10105)

If you are interested in starting a career in the metal fabrication, welding, metal production, maintenance or resource sectors than this course is for you.

This introductory course is recommended as a pre apprenticeship pathway to any engineering trade qualification such as Heavy Fabrication, Light Fabrication, Refrigeration and Fitting and Turning. Some of the competencies in this course can be credited to the Apprenticeship that you choose.

Areas of study include OH&S, safe and effective use of hand and power tools, GMA (MIG) and MMA (stick) welding, reading technical drawings, basic marking out and forming skills, oxy-acetylene cutting and the safe use of heavy machinery such as guillotines, drill presses and brake presses.

Vocational Placement is available for people who haven't yet worked in the engineering industry.

Information :

This course will not be offered semester 2, 2012. Please express your interest for a possible 2013 course.

Attendance is Monday to Wedneday 8:30am - 4:30pm.

Student will also need to do Voc Placement on either Thursday or Friday each week. Students will be required to provide/organise their own Voc Placement.

Students must wear steel capped boots.
 

Career Prospects :

Trades Assistant or Apprenticeship in the Engineering industry in Heavy Fabrication, Light Fabrication, Refrigeration and Fitting and Turning. 

Entry Requirement :

You must have successfully completed year 10 (or equivalent), turned 16 or have relevant experience and/or qualifications that indicate likely success in completing the course.

 

Assessment Information :

Your assessment will cover assignments, tests, oral questioning, observation and third party reports. Assessment is competency based and you will be required to complete all projects and assignments, written and/or practical, as set out within the TAFE student handbook.
